Biography

International guitar virtuoso Nils Klöfver is a critically acclaimed classical artist touring the world with his 6-string and 11-string guitars. Whether as a soloist or in ensembles, his music keeps making its mark through performances and recordings of inspired interpretations, daring commissions and his own original arrangements and compositions.

Born in Sweden, Nils began playing guitar at the age of seven in Borlänge and went on to study with Per-Olof Hedlund in Falun before moving to London in 2002. There he completed a BMus at the Royal College of Music with top honours, won the RCM Guitar Competition, and made his debut at Wigmore Hall in 2006. His playing has since taken him to venues including St John's Smith Square, the Houses of Parliament and Downing Street, and he has performed for the Swedish Royal Family on several occasions.

He is a leading ambassador for the 11-string alto guitar, the Swedish instrument developed by Per-Olof Johnson and luthier Georg Bolin in the 1960s. His album Altgitarr, recorded to mark the instrument's 50th anniversary, paired his playing with the drawings of artist Jenny Svenberg Bunnel, and he has given masterclasses and lecture-recitals on the instrument at institutions including the Royal College of Music and Bogotá's Javeriana University, as well as publishing a companion method for the instrument with Les Productions d'Oz. After a decade based in London, Nils spent several years in China directing a guitar department and serving as artistic director of the Changzhou International Guitar Festival, before returning to Sweden.
